London Super Sewer Project - Secondary Lining Completion

The Abbey Mills Pumping Station site marks the start and the arrival of a long journey for Kern Tunneltechnik and the Secondary Lining works within the Super Sewer project in London.

It was here in May 2014 that the Secondary Lining system for the Lee Tunnel was installed and launched, and just last week, the works for Main Tunnel D, East section, reached the successful completion at the same location with the works delivered by CVB JV.

The constant commitment to innovation has allowed to develop cutting-edge solutions that have undoubtedly revolutionized the working methodology in the field of Secondary Lining in tunnels. To name a few, this journey began with the introduction of the concrete pressure measurement system in the Lee Tunnel and extended to the PLC automated & hydrostatic shutter, the K-ONE casting device, and the Positioning system developed in collaboration with VMT.

We've participated in numerous project sections over the years, including the previously mentioned Lee Tunnel, as well as West sections like Hammersmith (HAMPS), Frogmore (FRGCT), Barn Elms (BAREL), Main Tunnel A (MNTLA), Main Tunnel B (MNTLB), and in the East section, Greenwich Connection Tunnel (GRECT). We're proud to culminate this journey with the successful completion of Main Tunnel D (MNTLD).

Throughout these ten years of planning, engineering, production, installation, and supervision, we've had the privilege to collaborate with exceptional teams from various joint ventures and site teams. It's difficult to mention everyone, but we want to express our gratitude to each and every person for their collaboration and contribution. Likewise, we extend our thanks to our entire supply chain for their support.
Last but not least, our heartfelt and special congratulations go to our exceptional team of collaborators at KERN, who have worked hard to achieve an unprecedented and remarkable result in the tunneling and secondary lining industry.
