Frogmore Connection Tunnel - Works completion

The Secondary Lining of the Frogmore Connection Tunnel has been successfully completed on the Thames Tideway Tunnel by the BAM Nuttall, Morgan Sindall, Balfour Beatty joint venture (BMB) who are delivering the west section of London new ‘super’ sewer.

The Shutter Formwork system was provided with all the innovative automation developed by KERN. Machines were controlled with an advanced PLC able to reduce operation times and avoid improper behaviour.

The machines were completely pre-assembled off-site and a full-scale trial was carried out at KERN premises in collaboration with BMB. A mock-up with tunnel segments was erected. Tideway and BMB attended several workshops implementing the solution and training the staff.

The final achievement was definitely in line with the expectations. The Frogmore Tunnel Shutter system was capable to produce 24m per day of secondary lining complying with the demanding project requirements and the UK high level of safety.

We would like to thank BMB and Tideway for their great collaboration which allowed to create one of the most innovative technical product for tunnel lining.
