Main Tunnel B Shutter System - Launch & First Block Completed

The first secondary lining block of the main tunnel connection tunnel at the Carnwath Road Riverside site was successfully completed on the 13 October 2021.


KERN designed and supplied the Ø7.3m fullround shutter system which has the possibility to carry out concrete castings with segmental or sprayed concrete lining.

The length can be changed depending on the primary lining conditions and a special system has been implemented to allow the works around the tight radius of the connection tunnel.

A full surface pre-assembly was undertaken at the site and the system was then transported inside the shed and lifted down the main shaft.
